The Editorial Office of Petroleum Geology and Recovery Efficiency worked out this publication ethics statement based on its actual situation, while referring publication ethical standards made by COPE, so as to enhance the professional ethics for authors, reviewers and editors, improve the quality of publications, and prevent academic misconduct.The journal editorial board will discuss and determine whether there is an academic misconduct and what is the punishment. Should forgery of data, multiple submission or plagiarism be found, the manuscript will be rejected immediately and the journal will not accept submission from the authors involved in three years. An announcement shall be published. All consequences shall be borne by authors. For other types of academic misconduct, once verified, the case will be handled according to national standards and international guidelines, depending on the specific circumstances.
Section 1 Publication Ethics for Authors
1.The manuscript should not be submitted to more than one journal for simultaneous consideration; redundant publishing is prohibited.
2. Authors should see that the manuscript must be an original work without plagiarism or data falsification. The content does not contain confidential information. The writing is scientific, accurate and concise.
3. Authors are defined by the following 4 criteria: 1) Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND 2) Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND 3) Final approval of the version to be published; AND 4) Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved. For a collective piece of work, the authors should specify their contribution in the Authors Contribution Form. Any change of authorship will not be allowed once the manuscript is accepted.
4. Authors shall objectively assess the research results of other people, and make proper citations in the manuscript.
5.Funding projects should be relevant to the research topic. It is improper to include funding projects irrelevant to the study.
6. Authors should respect the advices of reviewers. In case of any objection, authors can submit appeal to the editorial office.
7. All authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest, i.e., when the financing/ personal status/ affiliation of the authors (or the authors' organization/ employer) may affect the authors' decision, work or manuscript. When a product is involved, the author should also disclose whether there is a conflict of interest against competitive products. Authors should also submit the Statement of Competing Interests (template can be downloaded at the bottom of this page) along with the manuscript.
Section 2 Publication Ethics for Reviewers
1.Reviewers must be familiar with the research frontiers and development trends of their discipline, have high theoretical and academic level, and have made outstanding research achievements in relevant fields.
2. Reviewers shall deal with the manuscript within time limit and give specific comments. In case of failure to finish review on time for some reason, they should inform the editorial office in time.
3.Reviewers should make fair, honest, and unbiased assessment on advantages and weaknesses of manuscripts, and refrain from making unfair, negative, demeaning or offensive comments or including unjustifiable criticisms.
4.Reviewers should respect the author’s research results and keep the manuscripts confidential. They cannot use or reveal the author’s research results without permission.
5. If there is any potential competing or conflicting interests between reviewers and authors or institutes, reviewers should not accept reviewing the manuscript.
Section 3 Publication Ethics for Editors
1. Editors should register and transfer manuscripts to reviewers as soon as possible, timely inform authors of the review results by E-mails. During editing and publishing the manuscript, they should make sure each manuscript is processed fairly, transparently and impartially.
2. In editing and publishing the manuscript, editors should comply with relevant regulations and publishing norms.
3. Editors should respect author's research results and keep manuscripts confidential They cannot use or reveal the author’s research results without permission.
4. Editors should respect the advices of reviewers. In case of any objection, editors shall allow authors to submit appeal to the editorial office.
5.Editors shall encourage open discussion and debate that underpin the research and academic work.
6.Double-blind review is adopted by the journal. Editors should keep confidential the personal information of authors and reviewers.
7.If there is any potential competing or conflicting interests between editors and authors or institutes, editors should avoid processing the manuscript.
Section 4 Intellectual Property and Open Science
The editorial office strives to respect the protection of intellectual property and requires editors, authors and reviewers to do so. Any potential infringement should be avoided. Third-party infringement to the intellectual property of the journal is prohibited. On the premise of intellectual property protection, the journal encourages the practice of open science. Authors are encouraged to publish or share their research data whenever appropriate. The data for sharing may include original data, observation records, experimental results, etc. The journal also encourages the sharing of software, code, models, algorithms, protocols, methods and other useful materials. Authors can upload the materials above to an accessible third-party repository and make a proper citation or add a link at the end of the article.
The advertisement will be posted in the print journaland all advertising shall comply with the following standard.
1. The publishing of all advertisements will be collectively discussed and determined on our editorial meetings.
2. Advertisements published in the journals must comply with the Advertising Law of The People’s Republic of China and relevant laws and regulations. The journal will not publish advertisements not meeting the provision of relevant laws and regulations, or not in the scope of the journal.
3.The journal could make reasonable amendments to advertisements, but will obtain the consent of advertisers in advance.
4. The commercial content will be completely separated from academic content. Advertising will not affect editors' decision to accept manuscripts.
5. In case of potential conflicts of interest, authors, editors and reviewers will disclose the information in accordance with guidelines of COPE and relevant international.
