Peer review refers to the invitation of experts and scholars in related fields to evaluate the content of a manuscript to judge its academic value.This process is not only an important means to maintain the academic quality but to ensure normal operation of academic journals.The Editorial Office of Petroleum Geology and Recovery Efficiency implements a three-stage review system, i.e., initial review by editors, second review by peer experts, and final review by editor-in-chief (editorial board). Before peer review, relevant information such as authornames, affiliationsand sponsorship will be deleted, so that all review procedures are conducted by double blind review system. The process is detailed as follows:
Section 1 Review Process
1. Initial review by editor
The manuscript will be initially reviewed with respect to the topic selection and academic level. manuscripts that meet the requirements of this journal will be subject to expert review process and those fail will be rejected.
2.Second review by peer expert
The manuscript will be reviewed with respect to the content details including originality, academic level and preciseness by 2 peer experts who will then comment the manuscript for the author's reference.
The editor-in-chief, deputy editors-in-chief and responsible editors attend meetings on journal final versionregularly to decide which articles shall be published. Controversial articles will be sent out for another round of peer review. The final conclusion shall be made according to all review opinions.
Section 2 Timing
The journal promises to offer reviewing results to authors within three months from the date of submission. If authors do not receive any notice within three months, they can re-submit the manuscript to another journal. Authors should return the revised manuscript within the time prescribed. Unjustified delay of revision will be regarded as withdrawn of submission.
Section 3 Submission by Editorial Staff
The editorial staff / editors / editorial board members should not be involved in publishing decisions on papers which they have written themselves or have been written by their family members or colleagues. Any such submission should be strictly subject to the journal’s usual editorial process. Peer review should be handled independently from the relevant author/editor and their research groups.
Section 4 Appeal
The authors may make an appeal if they disagree with the comment of the reviewers. The authors need to write an appeal letter (with the manuscript serial number) and send it to pgre@vip.163.com. Detailed reasons for appealing must be stated, including a comprehensive and reasonable answer to the reviewers’ comment. The appeal letter should also be stamped by the author’s institute. The editorial department will consider whether to change the decision case by case.
